Nice Debut for Montanez

Just got back from Panthers Training, I’m kicking myself for forgetting my camera but that’ll give a reason to go back next week. I got in and caught the last inning of today’s loss. From the looks of it, the Chris Waters magic failed to rub off on Garrett Olson as he only went 2.2 innings and gave up 6 runs. It’s disappointing that he couldn’t get any momentum off his last start but so it goes. Hidden in the boxscore, Alberto Castillo’s quietly having a very good season. Today he went 2.1 innings, throwing 25 pitches-17 strikes. He’s got a 1.45 ERA so far and has flown under the radar.

Today the news was the MLB debut of one Lou Montanez and he didn’t let us down. In his first major league at bat, he hit a solo homer. In his second he singled. For the day, he went 2 for 4 and scored twice. I’m glad he had a good debut so he’ll be in the mix for some playing time. I really didn’t get to see any of this game, so the best that I can judge him on his line in the boxscore.

Yesterday Waters and today Montanez, neither are the hyped prospects that we’ve pinned our hopes and have been minor league career guys. Where the past 2 days back to back flukes or perhaps the O’s stumbled on to something? I guess we’ll have to watch and find out.
