Loewen exits with injury

The vicious circle for Adam Loewen continues.

Loewen was pitching in relief for starter Radhames Liz, who had a short and rough outing today. After going 27 pitches and walking back to back batters, Loewen left the game with ‘left elbow discomfort.’ I’m going out on a short limb and predict that its the same problem he’s been having.

I’m wondering if he’s going to be able to pitch again this season and in the big picture….to ever to be able to pitch again effectively again. It’s too early to write him off, but you have to wonder if it would be wise to simply shut him down for the season and hope that maybe he’ll be ready to go next season.

Long term though, it seems like this problem isn’t going away. He had surgery last season. He’s missed the bulk on this season. I’m not a doctor, nor pretending to be one, but I’m hoping that maybe this needs more time than was expected to heal and to get where he should be. Pitching is a destructive unnatural act on a pitcher’s arm. Every pitch takes a toll on a pitcher’s arm and to get it back to normal, to be able to abuse it the way you did before is going to take some time. Sometimes more time for others. I’m holding out hope that Loewen can get right and contribute to team. It’s not looking great at the moment. It looks like he’s turning out to be Mark Prior without the previous success. Let’s cross our fingers and hope that its not his fate.
