5 for 1?

That’s the price now for Erik Bedard now, apparently. 5 players…

Besides Jones, the Mariners’ trade package is believed to consist of left-handed relief pitcher George Sherrill, right-handed minor leaguers Chris Tillman and Kam Mickolio, and left-handed minor leaguer Tony Butler.

That’s Jones, an outfielder, and 4 pitchers. At some point this offseason, I’d like to see us add positional players instead of pitchers.

None of these pitchers really excite me,

Sherrill’s name has been linked to the trade since speculation surfaced. He pitched his best season last year, going 2-0 with a 2.36 ERA in 45 2/3 innings as the Mariners’ left-handed relief specialist.

All right, he’s supposed to be a good arm in the bullpen. I’ve never heard of him until this all came about. I looked up his stats and he’s not bad. Maybe he can come over here and be Jamie Walker. Maybe he can close. I dunno. Bullpen additions are crapshoots. He could the next Randy Myers or he could be Danys Baez all over again.

Tillman went 6-7, 5.26 in 20 starts for the high-Class A High Desert Mavericks after being promoted from the low-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, where he was 1-4, 3.55 in eight starts.

He’s supposed to have some potenital. He’s only 19, but his stats don’t enamor me.

Mickolio, who stands 6 feet 9 inches, was 3-1, 1.82 with two saves in 18 relief appearances for the Class AA West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx.

Mickolio could be another arm for the bullpen. He could be…or he couldn’t be. Who knows.

Butler was 4-7, 4.75 with one complete game in 18 starts for Wisconsin.

Butler’s another young arm. His stats aren’t amazing, but he’s only 19.

WHAT COULD BE THE HOLD UP?

Roch has this.

Now the deal has be held up apparently over ‘concerns over Jones.’

There’s rumors that he could have a degenerative hip condition. There’s rumors that it could be around health issue. It could be unrelated to baseball. It could concern over talking to reporters and letting the cat out of the bag (Angelos doesn’t like that). I hope that he doesn’t have any health issues or anything that of that nature. If there is a concern over health, then he needs to have a team physical.

I guess we’re no closer today to finding out what’s happening then we were yesterday.

Oh and hey, Johan Santana got traded to the Mets.
