Finally some Offense

The Oriole offense finally came to life last night and feasted on Cleveland Indians lefthander Jeremy Sowers. Yeah, they slapped around lefty!

The top of the order looked good. Brian Roberts looks like he’s out of his season starting slump and stole his 12th base of the season. Jay Payton looks like he should be batting in the 2 hole from now on, with a 3 for 5, 2 RBI, and a SB night. Miggi went 2 for 4 and 1 RBI and then Ramon when 1 for 4 with a 3 run HR and a sacrafice RBI. Ramon was only a few feet shy of a 3 homer night, so it’s good to see him getting a groove.

Cabrera went 7 inning and allowed 1 run, 3 hits, 6 K’s and 4 BB. All in all a very solid outing. Jamie Walker pitched the 8th and gave up a run, and Todd Williams, yes the Todd Williams, pitched a scoreless two hit ninth.

I’m worried about the rotation. Jaret Wright is basically a scratch for the season in my mind. Loewen will be out 8 weeks minimum. Can Guthrie and Burres hold down those spots? Can Trachsel keep up what he’s doing? In my mind Bedard and Cabrera are the only two starters at this time when I’m fully confident when they take the mound. Trachsel has thus far outperformed my expectations, but will it last? I’m betting we’ll see a signing or a trade. Brian Lawerance and Chan Ho Park are available on the market. Byu Young Kim is available via trade. They’re all available for a reason, but hey…maybe one of them can help out if needed.

  1. Just had to write after what I just heard. Are 9 inning games a thing of the past? Granted 8 is a good many runs but to hear Joe Angel say (in the eighth inning) “this game is a done deal” exudes a spirit of defeat that seems all too prevalent today.

  2. At this point, I am not sure what to think any more…

To be honest, I don’t know if any of the options above will help the organization.
