Per the Sun, the O’s and 1st round pick Brian Matusz are_close_to_a_deal.
Orioles first-round draft pick Brian Matusz is scheduled to be in Baltimore tomorrow to take a physical, one of the final steps to reaching an agreement on a contract.
According to a source familiar with the negotiations, the two sides are closing in a deal that could be finalized within the next 24 hours. The Orioles have until midnight Friday to reach an agreement or they’ll forfeit the draft rights of the University of San Diego left-handed pitcher and get a similar compensatory pick in next year’s draft.
Orioles club president Andy MacPhail said tonight that “there’s no agreement yet, but we are making some progress.”
Good news. It’d be awesome if this got done tomorrow and we didn’t have a last second deal like the Wieters deal last year. If he’s going in for a physical, things look like they should be working out soon.
