Another Scout, this time one for the Washington Nationals, has been put in the center of the MLB Scout Gambling probe. ESPN says seven to eight other scouts from other organizations have been linked to illegal gambling.
In the_ESPN_article, there’s more about Alan Marr, once the number 2 guy in the O’s scouting department. Marr was fired once all this came about.
From the article
One American League scouting director, who asked not to be identified, said that in the short term, it’s a serious blow to the Orioles’ scouting department.
That’s likely true, but illegal is illegal. No charges or MLB disciplinary action have been taken against Marr at this time.

I think that it is just amazing that the Orioles ownership never had the decency to call Marr into the office and do an internal investigation. From what I understand there are scouts still employed by the Orioles who gamble like most sports lovers in our country. Marr sweat blood for the Orioles and to fire him on the phone is just a cowardly act. He and his family are now paying the price for an act that does not demand this kind of punishment. I pray that another club picks Alan up as he is one of the most dedicated, loyal and talented people who cares who got caught up in a bad dream. I have known him for 40 years and want the public to know his side of a story that found him guilty and blacklisted him from the game he has in his bloodstream.
Thank You
Ron
